Spike in celebrity divorce filings likely not random

Fans and aficionados of celebrities and their personal lives might have noticed what appears to be a significant spike in divorce filings among the rich and famous. The sudden increase might seem random at first; however, just as most New York couples tend to plan filing for divorce as strategically as possible, so do their celebrity counterparts. As one expert reveals, the timing of these divorces are likely not random at all.

So many celebrities have filed for divorce lately that even the Muppets jumped in on the action and announced that long-time lovers Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog are calling it quits. This announcement followed splits between Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck as well as Narvel Blackstock and his country-singer wife Reba McEntire. But did all of these couples really decide to divorce at the same time? Most likely not.

Instead, it is widely believed that these couples had likely decided to end their marriage several months ago, but they chose to wait until summer time to announce the split and actually file the paperwork. When it comes to the world of high-profile celebrities, summer is actually a relatively slow time, and marital trouble might be less likely to affect their careers. Another possibility is that divorcing celebrities simply want the same amount of privacy that everyone else does, and summer might be a time when their fans are more focused on family rather than the tabloids.

Celebrities are not the only people who wait to file for divorce until a more strategic period of time. Many New York couples weather through the holidays before filing for divorce in the beginning of a new year when schedules are typically less hectic, whereas others may try to work around job or school schedules when deciding when to file. No matter when a couple files, the ultimate goal should remain the same -- to conclude the divorce proceedings with an agreeable divorce settlement with which both parties feel content.
